  11. SampleTank 1.1 FREE instructions

  13. - Limitation:
  14. This is a full working version of SampleTank able to play only the included
  15. sounds. Two versions (normal and high-quality) of the smallest concert
  16. grand-piano sound you'll find in the full version of SampleTank and 16 demo
  17. instruments with limited note range. In the XL Edition Instruments List folder
  18. is contained a list of all the 450 instruments available in SampleTank XL.

  20. - System Requirements Macintosh(r):
  21. Minimal: PPC604 200MHz with MacOS 8.5 or later system software, 64 MB RAM.
  22. Screen settings: 640x480, thousands of colors, 30 MB of free hard disk space.
  23. Suggested: Power Macintosh(r) G3/G4 with 128MB RAM, 50 MB of free hard disk
  24. space. ASIO card is recommended for low latency realtime play.

  26. - System Requirements Windows(r):
  27. Minimal: Intel(r) Pentium(r) 200 MHz MMX(tm) with Windows(r) 95, Windows(r) 98,
  28. Winsows(r) ME, Windows(r) NT(tm) 4.0, Windows(r) 2000, 64 MB RAM and
  29. high-quality sound card. Screen settings: 800x600, high colors (16 bit), 30 MB
  30. of free hard disk space. Suggested: Intel(r) Pentium(r) III 500 MHz with 128MB
  31. RAM, 50 MB of free hard disk space. ASIO card is recommended for low latency
  32. realtime play. Optimized for Pentium(r) III.

  34. - MIDI sequencer:
  35. To use SampleTank you need Cubase(r), Logic(tm) Audio or any other Macintosh(r)
  36. or Windows(r) sequencer compatible with VST(r) instruments (Cubase(r) PC version
  37. 3.7.2 or Mac version 4.1.1, or later, Logic(tm) Audio PC and Mac version 4.5, or
  38. later).

  40. - Installation:
  41. The installer tries to locate your VstPlugIns default folder in your system and
  42. asks you to confirm the location where to install SampleTank. You could choose
  43. to install it into the default folder for VST instruments in Cubase(r) or, if
  44. you wish, you could specify a different location. Remember that as a plugin,
  45. SampleTank has to be installed in a VstPlugIns folder or it wouldn't work. In
  46. the destination folder will be created a new folder called IK Multimedia, into
  47. this folder you will find the SampleTank plugin itself and the SampleTank
  48. Instruments folder containing the included sounds. The installation will then be
  49. complete.

  51. - Opening SampleTank in Cubase(r) Launch Cubase(r). Open the 'Panels' menu and
  52. select 'VST Instruments'. This will display the VST Instruments interface. Click
  53. on the 'No VST Instrument' text. A pop-up menu will show all available
  54. instruments. Move the selection over 'IK Multimedia' and click on the sub-menu
  55. 'SampleTank'. Switch the instrument on by clicking on the dull red button. The
  56. button will light up. Now click on the 'Edit' button. SampleTank will be
  57. launched.
  58.  
  59. - Opening SampleTank in Logic(tm) Audio Launch Logic(tm) Audio. If you already
  60. utilize 'AudioInst' channels in Logic(tm) Audio, just load SampleTank as one of
  61. those instruments. Otherwise create a new audio object in the Logic(tm) Audio
  62. envinronment. Set the output channel as Instrument 1. On this channel (in the
  63. mixer window) load SampleTank as a plug-in in the first 'insert' slot.
  64. Double-click on the plug-in slot (blue) and SampleTank will be launched.

  66. - Authorization (8 steps).
  67.  
  68. 1) Write down carefully (or copy) your Digital ID. This must be the Digital ID
  69. of the system where you are planning to install and use SampleTank. Digital ID
  70. and Authorization Code have no letters \'I\' and \'O\'. Those you might see are
  71. actually numbers: one and zero, respectively.
  72.  
  73. 2) Launch your browser and connect to the SampleTank registration page:
  74. http://www.sampletank.com/STFreeReg.html (your browser needs to support frames
  75. and Javascript; all recent versions of Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer
  76. will suffice). You will access the SampleTank registration form.
  77.  
  78. 3) Fill in all required fields, including your Serial Number and Digital ID. All
  79. codes should be entered in capital letters. Remember to include a working e-mail
  80. address: it will be used to send your Authorization Code. Press \'Submit\'.
  81.  
  82. 4) Open your e-mail client software and check for new mail in the address you've
  83. just inserted in the registration form. You will shortly receive a message
  84. confirming your registration and giving you an Authorization Code.
  85.  
  86. 5) If you had closed your applications, launch SampleTank again. Otherwise, just
  87. return to the authorization window.
  88.  
  89. 6) Type carefully your Authorization Code in the \'Authorization Code\' field in
  90. the authorization window.
  91.  
  92. 7) Press 'OK'. If all information has been entered correctly, SampleTank will
  93. now be authorized. Remember to write down your Authorization Code.
  94.  
  95. 8) If you need a new authorization simply repeat the procedure. If you use a
  96. different computer for music and for the internet, just note down the Digital
  97. ID, move on to your internet computer and use it to visit the registration page,
  98. fill in the registration form (with the Digital ID copied from the other
  99. system), and get the e-mail confirming your registration. Then note down the
  100. Authorization Code, get back to your music computer and complete the procedure.

  102. - Loading and playing instruments:
  103. Before loading an instrument, select the MIDI channel where you want to place
  104. it. You have all 16 channels at your disposal (for each of the VST(r)
  105. instruments opened). You select a MIDI channel by clicking on the 1-16 MIDI
  106. buttons on the SampleTank interface. Once you have a channel ready, double-click
  107. on an instrument name to load it in the channel. To the same effect you can
  108. select an instrument and press the 'Load' button. Notice that the led right
  109. under the channel button, called the 'Status' led, will turn yellow while the
  110. instrument is loading, and will stay green when it's ready to be played.

  112. The instrument name, as well as a generic description of the available
  113. instrument knobs, will appear in the left side of the interface. One or more
  114. pre-defined effects will be loaded and displayed in the effects interface on the
  115. right. More information on each single instrument is available by pressing the
  116. 'Info' button.

  118. You can now play the instrument using a master keyboard connected to the
  119. sequencer or using a MIDI sequence in the track. MIDI activity in the channels
  120. is indicated by the red led, called the 'MIDI' led, above each of the channel
  121. buttons.

  123. To load another instrument in the same channel, just double-click (or select and
  124. load) a new instrument in the list. To change to a different channel, press its
  125. MIDI button. To empty a channel, press the 'Empty' button. The Status and MIDI
  126. leds will immediately blank out.
